Join resident artist Cindy Gonzales as she takes you through an exploration of PMC, otherwise known as Precious Metal Clay. Once fired PMC contains 99.9% pure silver and is also known as fine silver, being more pure than even sterling silver. Cindy will share with you her techniques in handling, rolling, shaping, adding texture and molding 20grams of PMC into one of two projects. You can choose to create up to 4 different charms or one stunning ring. Cindy will have various molds and stamps for you to choose from, so be prepared to dive into this fun medium as you learn all you can do in this Exploration in PMC workshop.

Wrapture Workshop

Join artist Riki Schumacher in this fun and relaxing workshop, designed for every level. These sweet, wrapped necklaces were just published in an article Riki wrote for Stampington's Jewelry Affaire magazine. You will be designing your piece with vintage found objects, lace and silk. Riki will show you how to wind and weave all kinds of glass pearls, watch faces, old buttons and tons of other found objects, into this lovely design. You can incorporate any number of found objects you bring. Gather up one or more focal pieces, like old rhinestone earrings or brooches to use as the center focal. Or how about a rusty found object if you so prefer? Riki will supply some fun vintage laces, fabrics, and silks for you to add to your bejeweled wrap, giving it luscious texture, and an elegant, romantic feel. The cord comes in a wide variety of colors, so you can plan a color scheme if you like. Make this design as elaborate as you want, they are so much fun to design!

Birds In Flight Pendant

Join artist Riki Schumacher as she comes to Gilding the Lily teaching one of her favorite pieces to create! With an adventuresome variety of materials, you will build layer upon layer of objects and texture to create a stunning focal piece. You will begin by working with sheet metal, cutting out the perfect size and shape. Then with lots of overseeing and instruction, you will use a torch to flood solder onto your metal. You will attach a bezel, which will encase prepared paper, like a picture, poem, or word, behind a beautiful frame, finishing off the top layer. This gives the piece a wonderful "shadow box" feel, encasing a beautiful thought or art. You will drill, add eyelets, and wire as you make the birdies sing with delight! Bring an egg for the bird nest on the twig (like a pearl), as well as chain and a clasp to finish a stunning necklace. You will love the engineering Riki has in store for you in this jam packed class!

Oregon artist Lonnie Jenck is offering her Happiness of Home torch soldered pendant as a way of learning to solder using a cooking torch. This is a wildly popular method of soldering and in many ways is much easier to use then a soldering iron. Lonnie has put together this charming house pendants featuring a front door and four pane window which hangs sweetly under it's own rhinestone embellished house number. Lonnie will provide all materials for the pendant, as well as the soldering tools used to put this piece together. Bring any additional supplies for creating a necklace and Lonnie will help you with that as well.

Join us for a day of fun as local artist Cindy Gonzales teaches this stunning and beautifully detailed soldered banner. Images of the Virgin Mary will be added to faux book fronts, new brass crosses will be aged with patinas, ribbons, charms, and more will embellish three beveled glass stations. Cindy will share her tips for soldering with an aged, rustic effect as well as share her tricks for attaching those pesky little jump rings which will dangle with yet more charms. Cindy will provide the images, beveled glass, and much more with Gilding the Lily sharing an abundant supply of charms, ribbons, and chain for embellishing. Join us this fall for a very special workshop, as Gilding the Lily presents a unique art experience with one of our favorite artists. This all day workshop on Brookdale will include a catered lunch for our guests, and the opportunity to spend the day in the company of a very talented doll artist. We are delighted to welcome back Colleen Moody, who was to be joined by her dear friend Iva Wilcox. Unfortunately Iva has had to cancel her trip, however she is working closely with Colleen to ensure the project will be presented as originally designed. You will be creating the exquisite confection shown here, learning new techniques and skills in this all inclusive class. Just bring yourself, your imagination, and the tools requested below.

Doll maker Colleen Moody and folk artist Iva Wilcox have teamed up to bring a one-of-a-kind project to Gilding the Lily this fall. Though sadly Iva won't be able to be with us, The "Winter Wishes" theater workshop will be a full day of creating a wintry scene complete with two snow ladies amidst a winter wonderland, in a lighted, arched theater.

You will learn how to assemble and install a light fixture inside an arched theater you will create and cover with snow. Inside the theater, you will create a wintry scene of snow covered trees, branches and a small real wood bench that is settled amid a blanket of snow on the ground. Sculpt a tiny robin and little mushrooms to add those special touches to your lamp.

Who better to enjoy this setting then two lovely snow ladies! You will sculpt these snow beauties from clay and learn the techniques to dress them with new and vintage fabrics, tinsel, a warm hat and fancy top hat to give them true old-world charm.

You won't want to miss this special one day teaching event that is sure to have you leave with an heirloom piece you will treasure for years to come!

Class will run from 9 am - 6 pm, with an hour lunch break. You will be provided with a class kit that includes all the supplies to complete this special project.

Dede will share her easy step-by-step instructions in wire wrapping pearls, rhinestones, beads and chain as you create the necklace to this unique piece. You'll be surprised at how easily this really can be done, and better yet we will use affordable tools found in your local hardware store.

We are pleased to introduce our newest teacher shell artist Judy Mackey. The art form of creating with seashells dates back hundreds of years and was very popular in Victorian times. Judy started creating shell art 6 years ago and has since mastered the art in the truest sense! She's has created stunningly ornate, fine shell art pieces covering everything from furniture, mirrors and chandeliers, to boxes, vases and perfume bottles. In this workshop Judy will teach you her tips and techniques in design work, application, as well as teaching you to create several different flowers all using beautifully dyed and natural vintage shells. Judy is graciously supplying everything you need to create your own one-of-a-kind beautiful Seashore Memories vase including all tools, adhesives, and a variety of shells. If you have a something special you'd like to bring to work on, as opposed to using one of the vintage vases provided, please feel free to do so. Work done in class will be similar to the small vases shown below.

We are happy to have artist Robin Dudley-Howes with us teaching her Find it and Link it workshop. With 13 years experience in wire shaping and having assembled hundreds of pieces with exclusive designers, Robin has much to share in working with wire. For those of you with a basic knowledge of wire wrapping, Robin can almost guarantee you'll learn something new from beginner to advanced. In this class Robin will show you how to create at least 3 styles of "S" clasps, the "velvet" wrapped link, twisted jump rings, button connectors, figure eight, the "Lynne" link, eye pins, spiral head pins, spiral links, connectors, and much more! All students will receive a folder to attach their samples to, or if time allows you can link them all together.

Please bring good quality jewelry pliers. Robin suggests Lindstrom, Swamstrom, Bead Smith, Euro Tool or similar.

Though the project is finished in a patriotic theme fitting for the season, you might chose to create with a different color palette or theme all together. Riveting Ex Voto Cuff

Nancy will teach this ex voto cuff to limited seating of seven persons, with May 29 as our second seating. We will be using the new piercing and riveting tool and working with vintage and new items to create this stunning cuff bracelet.

The project incorporates a vintage filigree that will be shaped to your own wrist, an ex voto heart from Peru, cast pewter connectors, Nigerian silver beads, and aged rhinestone rondelles for just a little bit of bling. A beautiful cast metal cross set with rhinestones dangles from the ex voto in the front. Metals mix freely in this piece for added interest, and we will be riveting and cold connecting in this workshop.

This class is all inclusive...no supplies are needed. Just bring yourself, your tools if you have them, and if anyone purchases their own piercing and riveting tool, please bring it along to share.

We are so happy to welcome back book artist Leslie Marsh. After teaching a small, private class with us last year, Leslie is once again traveling from Pennsylvania to share and teach her Coptic Bound Metal Books, and this time she's sharing them with all of us. Leslie will teach you the basics of working with metal, as well as soldering using a torch to embed vintage brass filigrees, and metal findings onto your book covers. Leslie will provide an extensive kit including book covers, watercolor paper, book binding supplies, soldering materials and equipment as well as her vast knowledge and skills as a book binder. You bring a few special embellishments and together we will create these amazing little books. Leslie will wrap up the class by teaching you to hand bind your book using the age-old method of coptic binding.

Heart Strings

A vintage brass thimble is the beginning component for a necklace Diane Cook likes to call Heart Strings, made using luscious strips of Dupoini silk, snips of fiber and vintage tulle. This will be a day of great fun, as you begin adding various lengths of vintage or brass chain, wire wrapped baroque pearls or glass drops, tiny vintage shoe buttons, vintage rhinestones dangles, broken bits from a vintage rhinestone bracelet, or perhaps a vintage rosary or a favorite theme of charms. No doubt, you will see your Heart Strings soon fill to overflowing. But leave room for a tiny book you will design using a piece of hand-etched metal. Diane will even supply vintage paper for you to tuck inside, as this little books becomes one of the special dangles in your tassel, as you attach it to a chosen piece of chain.

Etched & Layered Cuffs

In the summer of 2010, Diane Cook shared two of her Etched & Layered Cuffs in an issue of Belle Armoire Jewelry Magazine. Since then she has designed and created more cuffs than she can count. We are thrilled to host Diane as she shares her techniques for creating these one of a kind treasures!
You will begin this class by using your stamping skills on a blank cuff. The next step is etching, but once your cuff is etched... the layering begins; as little or as much as you like. This is the time to stretch your creative wings adding layer upon layer, embellishing to your heart's content. You may start with a rich brass filigree, a vintage brooch or rhinestone earring, a shoe clip, or a mother of pearl button. Vintage lace, ribbon, and tulle are also gorgeous layers you might consider as well. While the focus of our class is a stunning cuff of your own design, the skills you learn will easily transfer for use in your future projects.

After several requests, local artist Robin Dudley-Howes is back with us teaching this Wire Shaping 101 workshop. Join us and let Robin teach you the basics of wire shaping, as you create at least three artistic, wire Bohemian Rings. With 12 years of experience, Robin will guide you from very basic work on to more complex wire shaping. While no experience is necessary, you'll want to bring better grade jewelry pliers; Robin suggests Lindstrom, Swanstrom, Bead Smith, Euro Tool, or similar brands.

We are pleased to host Oregon Artist Lonnie Jenck as she joins us for a special workshop, The Reliquary of St Roch. Lonnie will teach you the basics of creating an enclosed bezel focal piece, using her torch method. After constructing your bezel you will embellish the inside with ephemera of your hearts desire. Using glass, and the framework supplied by Lonnie there are several options in finishing this unique reliquary. With the focus of this workshop being the shrine, as opposed to the necklace, this is where you'll spend most of your class time. Lonnie will generously supplies enough materials for each student to create two unique enclosed bezel reliquaries.

We are happy to have Folk Artist Iva Wilcox back at Gilding the Lily teaching her Enchantress of The Sea reliquary. Iva will lead you through the steps to create your own under water world in a small glass and wood display case. In this class, you'll construct a three-dimensional under-the-sea scape. You can use the images Iva provides or bring one of your own and really personalize it. Iva will share her techniques for adding rich textures and layers of paint to build your mermaid's palace. You will also learn how to lavishly furnish it with faux pearls, seashells, glitter and gold, coral, sea fans and a sandy floor. Can you hear the siren song beckoning?

Etched Metal Bezel ~ Start to Finish!

Building on an earlier class, Artist Dede Warren will expand your knowledge of bezel making from beginning to end. Learn how simple and inexpensive hardware store materials are transformed into a beautiful bezel focal piece. This workshop will start with basic metal smith techniques including cutting, shaping and patina application on base metals. Building on that Dede will also share her secrets for authentic metal etching again using easily found materials. And if that wasn't enough, after embellishing your bezel you will learn the fundamentals of working with resin. While each student will have a completed bezel by the end of class, due to the drying time resin requires you will need to return to pick up your finished bezel the following day.

Then come join the talented Robin Dudley-Howe and learn how to take the raw material of metal sheet and cut it into basic shapes, add texture, and finish it to a smooth, warm glow. Robin will teach you how to patina, stamp, and punch in the metal while attaching rivets and eyelets. As an added benefit, you will learn basic "repujado" (the art of metal embossing) techniques. It seems everyone has caught the soldering bug, and in response to your requests we have put together this Basic Soldering class for you. Local Artist Dede Warren will share her knowledge of soldering on a variety of mediums. This workshop will give you a basic knowledge of what you can and cannot solder, the basic tools involved, and a variety of ways in which to use this skill.

Our focus in this hands on workshop will be the elements of soldering and not project oriented. Dede will supply the materials to create your own soldered chain, a 3 dimensional bezel, and will share how to create a chunk, rough finished soldered 3 dimensional piece, along with using a variety of patinas. This class is rich in soldering techniques, and our focus will be on learning the art of soldering. While we will create chain and a bezel we will not be creating a finished project with either of these. If you have a 3 dimensional piece you'd like to solder, please bring these with you and we will discover and troubleshoot the ways you can solder these pieces.

At this years CHA we had the pleasure of meeting the talented mother and daughter duo of Magdelena Muldoon and Magdalena Barrena. These two talented women have brought the art of authentic Metal Embossing into the Craft and Hobby world, and now we are thrilled to share this art with you.

In this demo based workshop, we will explain the tools and supplies needed for Traditional Metal Embossing, and how to use them. Most of the education is understanding what type of mark or shape each tool marks on the metal. Through basic techniques you will learn, step by step, the simple methods used to create a variety of metal designs.

Join artist Lisa Loria as she shares her darling, vintage Bling Baby Jewelry holders with us. Lisa has had wonderful success selling her babies and now shows you how to create your own one of a kind piece.

Using a vintage lamp, or perhaps a bird cage picked up at the craft store, Lisa will teach her tips and tricks for turning these common objects into the base for your baby. Add your own vintage doll and these really come to life! The focal point of each baby will be the vintage bling Lisa shares with you as you create a flashy little bodice to dress your doll.

Your kit provided by the artist will include the arm post, batting and vintage fabric to choose from, a beaded halo, pearls and baubles, and a chandelier crystal. Join new Resident Artist Bridgette Antonelli to create this wearable Fairy's Haven Necklace. This diminutive project includes many new techniques and unusual materials, for an afternoon of learning that is sure to please all students.

Inside a little jewelry gourd captured by gossamer linen netting, a tiny brass-winged frozen Charlotte (only 1 1/2" tall!) becomes the focal point of this edgy little mixed media collage, marrying the organic with the vintage look we all love. In this class Bridgette will teach the ancient art of knotless netting, rosary chain construction, basic cold connection techniques, and even metal stamping.

Your kit provided by the artist will include a miniature gourd, waxed linen thread, brass components, findings, crystals and more to complete the necklace as pictured. Bridgette will also bring a selection of the tiniest of Charlottes, so that you may choose your own. These will be available for $5.00 each. Full of Grace ~ A Soldered Reliquary

Local Artist Robin Dudley-Howes brings another fun project to Gilding the Lily with her Full of Grace Soldered Reliquary. What is a reliquary? Direct quote from the dictionary~ “A receptacle, such as a coffer or shrine, for keeping or displaying sacred relics.” As the name suggests, Robin will guide you as you create your own reliquary using all new soldering techniques. This is a fantastic project for those who have some soldering experience and want to challenge themselves, as well as for the novice. Robin will not only go over the dynamics of making a miniature “reliquary”, she will also demonstrate how to add a soldered frame over glass, wire basket handle with velvet wrap, as well as collage techniques. Each of you will be sure and leave with a finished project! This is an exclusive project to the Gilding the Lily and will not be taught anywhere else.
Rhinestone chain not included. Robin does share her soldering equipment for those of you who don't yet have it. However, bringing your own soldering tools will ensure you will finish your work in class.

Resident artist Dede Warren is back at Gilding the Lily teaching a beautiful, double-wrap necklace Endless Strand of Pearls. Inspired by artist Tami Hichman, Dede created this necklace from vintage strands of pearls, old rhinestone rhondelles, disco balls, coin pearls, mercury glass beads, and more. Adding in special bits and pieces found in vintage broken jewelry complete this one-of-a-kind necklace. In this workshop you will learn jewelry basics such as wire wrapping, cold connections, use of Beadalon wire and crimp beads, as well as how to make your own headpins using a torch and sterling wire. You bring in a few focal charms, and Dede will supply the rest!

With summer fast approaching we are thrilled to have resident artist Cindy Gonzales back with us sharing her Memories of the Seashore soldered bottles with us. We hope you'll come spend the day with us as well embellish not one, but two big bottles with beautiful shells from the Florida seashore! We'll also learn to transfer images onto glass, and you're welcome to bring your own black and white printer copy of a photo if you'd like to have a personalized image. For those of you who've taken Cindy's classes before you know how generous she is with her supplies, and how easy going and enjoyable her classes are. Robin's fascination with these miniature dolls has led to yet another eclectic mixed media necklace contrasting vintage with contemporary. In this project you will learn innovative wire shaping techniques, hammering, clasps, problem solving and sturdy wire construction with out using a torch! "Fingerlings" Bracelet

Join artist Sid Hanner as she creates the magic that is this extraordinary bracelet composed of many tiny gemstone rings. Sid returns to her true love, copper, to make this bracelet of copper chaining, clasp, and multiple copper pipe rings wire wrapped with dozens of tiny beads, gems, and pearls. The effect is stunning.

Learn the techniques for cutting and finishing copper pipe, soldering, and wire wrapping during this workshop. You will make several of the rings during class, mastering the techniques for this project, and can continue to add to your bracelet after you leave this wonderful workshop with one of our favorite artists.

We are thrilled to welcome Becky Wimbs to our family of teachers here at Gilding the Lily. For her first class, Becky brings her signature "Barefoot Becky" fabric doll to us, and invites you to join her in creating your own little lady. Becky has been creating these dolls for the past 20 years, after studying under Eleanor Peace Bailey in Northern California. Over the years the dolls detail, and size (approx 18") has evolved into the little miss you see today. This workshop includes two full days of class, with a bit of homework to be done on your own. Come explore the endless possibilities of Gypsy Junk Jewelry with Somerset Studio Director’s Circle Artist Lisa Guerin. This unique style of jewelry design combines art stamps, shrink film and lots of little bits of junk, of course!

In this class you will create one of a kind treasures and discover many delights along the way. Lisa will teach you the tricks and techniques of working with shrink film, create findings and extra pieces, while making lots of gypsy trinkets. You will design and create your own jewelry pieces. Finally everyone will create a display board for their gypsy junk jewelry. Students are encouraged to bring any kind of jewelry bits, single earrings, broken pieces, charms, buttons, and other junk to incorporate into their designs.

The simplest of silhouettes and very minimal sewing is the secret to this showpiece! With zero measuring and no need for a pattern, even those who have only sewn a button will be developing like real designers! Holly will show you her fun and easy steps to creating your one-of-a-kind fashion couture apron that is sure to be a show stopper. She'll share special techniques on fraying fabric, making vintage-like yoyos and fabric flowers, creating leaves out of vintage dotted Swiss fabric and fashioning ribbon borders.

You will receive a beautiful kit consisting of pre-cut coordinating fabric and floral hanky, beautiful vintage and new hand selected decorative buttons for embellishing, gorgeous eyelet ruffle, vintage ribbon, lace, crochet appliqués and a beautiful brooch to add sparkle. Each kit will be slightly different so no two designs will end up the same, allowing each artist to discover her own inner-designer and walk away with a true original!

*Please note that the apron sashes will be pre-sewn and Holly will be available to help sew the actual body of the apron if needed. This will allow more time for creative embellishing and “play time!” Flower, yoyo and leaf shapes will also be precut. I’ll also have extra fabric available to add different colors/patterns if you so choose.

You will learn to create three different floral designs with beads and wire, the beginnings of your own bouquet of beaded flowers. Arlene will also be bringing some of her fabulous vintage flowers to illustrate her inspiration for this project, and perhaps will share some of her other work with us as well. Join Los Angeles altered book artist Kelly Kilmer as she shares her techniques for building altered books from beginning to end. She will share with you her plethora of unique art papers she has gathered collected for years.

Kelly is absolutely addicted to these little books. I guarantee after this class, you will be too! After you pick from a hodge podge of "found" papers, you will assemble a variety of little paper books. Kelly will lead you as you assemble a small pile of "swatches" learning a quick and easy bookbinding stitch as you go. You will then start to work on the pages, working in multiple books at one time. Listening to your muses (no criticism only soft whispers of "go for it...") you will collage, stamp, doodle, stitch and play on the pages. You will learn how to work fast. You will learn a variety of new mixed media collage techniques. You will walk out with a small pile of books that you can toss in a bag and bring with you anywhere and everywhere.

Please join us in welcoming New York Designer and Artist Debby Schuh for a full evening of fun and creativity. We will start with a catered dinner from 5:00 to 6:00pm followed by our workshop.

Back by popular demand but remodeled with all new products, you’ll tranform a 7gypsies ATC card holder into a fanciful home for your treasured memories of yesterday, TODAY, and tomorrow. Sometimes we think that “those” were the good old days, but TODAY is the day to make good memories! This little holder will display your everyday memories on little layouts and pockets in a nostalgic style, but with a fresh burst of color and whimsy.

You’ll learn new techniques for playing with paper and embellishments, painting and distressing and creating something lovely. If you’ve already taken the first version of this class, these cards are designed to be added to your project or display on a new holder.

Your kit will contain several sheets of K&Company Cut n Paste 12x12” papers, a full package of 264 pieces of ephemera and October Afternoon Wild Cards, ribbons, tiny trinkets, crepe paper, a package of 50 blank ATC cards, transparencies, and more.
